Add Video Age Gate

Many video game and movie trailers require an age-gate that restricts a person by age to view the video by entering their age. Being able to add this feature per video would be great.

    Hello there

Thanks for contacting us and for providing this feedback.

Can you help us better understand the requirement here. Presumably the video does not play (or plays for a set time to show a preview) before a dialog box appears asking the user to enter their age? If the age they enter does not meet the minimum age requirement, the video will play no further?

Can I ask what is to stop a 13 year old (or whatever) simply entering "22" and viewing the video?

Here is an example using a different video player, Youtube has the same kind of age-gate.

There is nothing preventing someone from lying, it's a honor system but is still required by law on some video game trailers and movie studios require it on some trailers due to content. example a swear word is said.

    Hello Donald

Thanks for these examples. We formally track all such requests and I have added yours to the database.

It's inevitable that we're not going to meet every requirement out of the box and, for that reason, we have APIs which allow the service to be extended. It would be relatively straightforward to implement an age-gate using our Javascript API:

There are some examples of the API in action here:

One example which comes to mind is:

That demo doesn't actually capture any data, but it demonstrates how you can sense when a video has been running for a set time and then "do something", electing to then continue or stop playback.

Keep an eye on the vzaar blog: which we update regularly and frequently use to announce developments ahead of their formal availability.

    Hello Donald

I'm going to go ahead and close this for now. Thanks for contacting us and don't hesitate to get back in touch on this - or on any other issue - in the future.
